'Sudan, Remember Us' offers a poignant portrayal of the Sudanese people’s enduring fight for freedom and democracy, captured through the lens of director Hind Meddeb. Originally shot during the 2019 uprising that toppled a long-standing dictatorship, the film has taken on new urgency amid the ongoing civil conflict that began in 2023. With tens of thousands of lives lost, the documentary stands as both a historical record and a testament to resilience, highlighting the courage and determination of civilians caught in the crossfire.
The film is currently being featured in Paris as part of a masterclass examining the role and risks of documenting political upheaval. By presenting intimate moments from Sudan’s struggle, it underscores the importance of preserving truth in times of crisis. The cinematic narrative not only honors past resistance but also serves as a beacon for future generations seeking justice and peace.
