Here is what the page “The Dark Origins of Disney Fairy Tales: The Brothers Grimm's Gory Stories” contains. Before Disney's happy endings, fairy tales were grim. This video, presented by Claudia Schwabe, delves into the original versions collected by the Brothers Grimm. Stories like Cinderella, Snow White, and Little Red Riding Hood featured violence, mutilation, and death. We explore how these tales evolved from oral traditions to the sanitized versions we know today.
The video examines the historical context: the Grimms were not just collectors but also editors, softening some elements while retaining others. We discuss the role of fairy tales in teaching moral lessons and reflecting societal fears. From the evil stepmother's punishment to the wolf's demise, the original endings were often brutal. This video traces the transformation of these stories as they spread across cultures and were adapted by Disney.
