“The Salem Strangler: College Student's Murder and the Cold Case That Haunted a Town” — what this page in the network covers. In the season premiere of '20/20,' co-anchor Deborah Roberts investigates the murder of college student Claire Gravel, who was found strangled off the side of the road just six miles from her apartment in Salem, Massachusetts. For years, the case went unsolved, and even new evidence failed to lead to an arrest. It eventually went cold—until 2007, when a mother in a nearby town was attacked in a eerily similar way.
As detectives zero in on a suspect, this investigation uncovers shocking details and a pattern of violence. The episode features interviews with law enforcement, family members, and others close to the case, painting a vivid picture of the victims and the community's long wait for justice.
