Content overview: “Tracy McGrady: Why the Timberwolves Are a Dark Horse in the West for 2026-27”. NBA Hall of Famer Tracy McGrady sees the Minnesota Timberwolves as a legitimate dark horse contender in the Western Conference for the 2026-27 season. In a recent interview, McGrady highlighted the team's young core and defensive identity as key reasons they could surprise the league. He pointed to Anthony Edwards' continued growth into a top-tier scorer and the frontcourt duo of Rudy Gobert and Karl-Anthony Towns as a foundation that can compete with any opponent.
McGrady noted that the Timberwolves' ability to stay healthy and build chemistry will be crucial, especially in a loaded Western Conference. With teams like Denver, Phoenix, and Dallas dominating headlines, Minnesota has flown under the radar—but McGrady believes that could work in their favor. The former scoring champion emphasized that the Timberwolves have the tools to make a deep playoff run if they can maintain consistency on both ends of the floor.
