The Apple TV docuseries "Twisted Yoga" delves into the experiences of multiple young women who accuse a global network of tantric yoga centers, led by a Romanian spiritual figure, of fostering environments where sexual exploitation was normalized under the guise of spiritual growth. The series reveals allegations of manipulation, coercion, and emotional control, with survivors sharing how they were drawn in by promises of enlightenment and later subjected to inappropriate conduct.
Directed by an acclaimed filmmaker, the documentary explores the complex intersection of spirituality, power dynamics, and personal autonomy. The director emphasizes that the narrative centers on how sexuality was framed as a path to higher consciousness within the organization, challenging viewers to reconsider the boundaries between devotion and abuse. The series aims to shed light on systemic failures and the long-term psychological impact on those involved.
