UEFA has confirmed its intention to proceed with a boycott of FIFA-organized tournaments despite FIFA's public support for its president, Gianni Infantino. This stance comes after nine days of tension, during which UEFA's 55 member associations unanimously agreed to consider boycotting unless Infantino abandoned the FIFA Forward Enterprise initiative, a program funded privately by FIFA. Although the initiative was officially canceled last week, UEFA maintains that the underlying issues have not been resolved, expressing concerns over the potential for future conflicts.
The ongoing dispute has attracted criticism from the global players' union Fifpro, which accused Infantino of abusing his presidential powers. UEFA's firm position reflects a growing distrust in Infantino's leadership and hints at a significant fracture in the governance of international football. This situation raises the possibility of a major disruption in future FIFA competitions, underscoring the seriousness of the disagreements between UEFA and FIFA's administration.
