The U.S.-Iran conflict continues to influence the aspirations of Iranian Kurds seeking greater autonomy. Many live in exile in Iraqi Kurdistan, where they hope that heightened international scrutiny and military tensions between Washington and Tehran might create conditions for their safe return. The current geopolitical climate offers a rare moment of potential momentum for Kurdish demands, as global attention focuses on Iran’s internal dynamics.
However, this optimism is tempered by caution. Local leaders in Iraqi Kurdistan express concern that any attempt by Iranian Kurdish groups to act from territory under their control could trigger harsh retaliation from Tehran. Such actions risk escalating regional instability and undermining fragile peace efforts. As a result, the path toward self-determination remains uncertain, shaped not only by domestic struggles but also by complex international relations.
