US and Iranian officials held preliminary talks in Islamabad, Pakistan, as part of ongoing diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions across the Middle East. The meeting followed a session between Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and US Vice President JD Vance, who met in the capital on Saturday. The discussions are seen as a critical step toward broader regional peace initiatives amid rising conflict.
France 24 correspondent Shazaib Wallah reported from Islamabad, noting that the US delegation was scheduled to meet with Iranian representatives later in the day. The talks mark a rare direct engagement between the two nations, highlighting renewed international interest in resolving the crisis through dialogue. The event underscores Pakistan’s role as a neutral venue for high-level diplomacy in the region.
