Senator Maggie Hassan of New Hampshire questioned Senator Markwayne Mullin of Oklahoma during a Senate confirmation hearing for the Department of Homeland Security. The hearing was held by the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, where Mullin, President Donald Trump’s nominee, faced scrutiny over his qualifications and vision for the agency. Mullin replaces Kristi Noem, who was dismissed following criticism from both parties during recent congressional testimony.
Mullin, first elected to Congress in 2012, has served as a U.S. Representative and is now seeking confirmation to lead one of the nation’s largest federal departments. The discussion focused on national security priorities, border management, and the department’s internal challenges. The hearing highlighted concerns about leadership stability and policy direction amid ongoing debates over immigration and domestic safety.
