“Whalefall Review: Disney's Survival Thriller Gets Strong Performances But Can't Replicate ” — what this page in the network covers. Disney's new survival thriller Whalefall, based on the novel by Daniel Kraus, features compelling performances from its cast but ultimately delivers a formulaic story that struggles to capture the same magic as The Martian. The film centers on a diver who is swallowed by a sperm whale and must find a way to escape, a premise that promises intense claustrophobic drama but falls short due to predictable plotting and a lack of the scientific ingenuity that made Ridley Scott's 2015 hit so engaging.
While the lead actor brings emotional depth to the harrowing situation, the script relies on familiar beats and fails to offer fresh twists, leaving audiences with a sense of déjà vu. The movie's visual effects are impressive, especially in the underwater and interior whale sequences, but they cannot compensate for the narrative shortcomings.
