The new Supreme Leader of Iran, Mojtaba Khamenei, delivered his first official message, emphasizing a commitment to continue the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. Notably, this statement was not made directly by Khamenei but was read aloud by a news presenter on Iranian state television while showing his photograph. This unusual presentation has raised questions and speculation regarding Khamenei's current health and location.
The BBC Newscast hosts Alex and James were joined by experts Jane Corbin, a Panorama filmmaker, and Baran Abbasi, a BBC Persian reporter and presenter, to analyze the implications of this initial statement from Iran's new Supreme Leader. Their discussion focused on interpreting the message's significance and the possible reasons behind the indirect delivery of the address.
