Senator Gary Peters from Michigan sharply criticized Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth during a Senate hearing, accusing him of failing to support American troops amid the ongoing conflict with Iran. Peters highlighted that the Strait of Hormuz remains blocked, oil prices have increased, and U.S. service members continue to lose their lives, questioning what progress has been made since the war's outset. In response, Hegseth defended the military strategy and dismissed Peters' comments as reckless.
This confrontation underscores growing dissatisfaction among lawmakers regarding the administration’s approach to the Iran conflict. Peters’ remarks reflect a wider concern that the war lacks clear goals and tangible achievements, intensifying debates over military funding and policy. The exchange captures the heightened tension and challenges in defining a successful strategy in the current geopolitical situation.
